My name is SSGT William Fields. I am a recruiter for the Indiana Army National Guard, and I am also a former Marine. I served from 1991-1999 on Camp Pendleton with my first unit being Marine Barracks Subic Bay Philippines then 1st BN. 9th Marines; where I did a West/Pac and participated in Operation Restore Hope (Somalia, Blackhawk down); that unit later changed to 2nd BN 1st Marines. I was an instructor at School of Infantry for two and a half years then closed my Marine Corps career with 1st BN. 1st Marines where I completed a second West/Pac.
With the big push of the USMC and the IRR's being recalled, I wanted to let you know about the benefits of joining the Army National Guard. After having served 8 years in the Marine Corps, I must admit that I was hesitant about re-enlisting in the Army National Guard, but I missed the camaraderie and prestige of serving the United States of America. My experience here, however, has been a very positive one, and the benefits of coming in as a former Marine are wonderful.
For example:
Your local Guard unit needs your recent experience with advanced military equipment, weapons and tactics. Your leadership skills are in demand too. You can help train other citizen soldiers and share with them the strength and maturity you've gained in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Please note, however, that if you decide to join, you would be ineligible to go back to the Corps. And if you do want to go back to the Corps, I absolutely respect that.
If you are interested in learning more about joining, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me. I promise I will not write you or "harass" you about this.
